Professor Nickerson is a distinguished educator (University of Georgia Animal Sciences Department) and researcher who has spent the last thirty-six years focusing on large animal and dairy sciences studies. He received his B.S. in animal and veterinary sciences (with distinction) at the University of Maine, M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in diary science from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University.
Professor Nickerson’s current research is focussed on new treatment strategies for intramammary/intramuscular therapy, drug efficacy studies for treatment of mastitis in dairy cattle, and the role of extracellular bacterial toxins in mammary inflammation. In addition to his academic research as Department Head of Animal and Diary Science at the University of Georgia, he is a charter member of the American Dairy Science Association holding several committee and council chairmanships, a member of the National Mastitis Council and has acted as a consultant to several US and European animal health companies and veterinary medical associations. He has served on the Board of Directors for the American Dairy Science Association, the Louisiana Dairy Fieldman’s Association, the National Mastitis Council, and the Southern United Dairy Industry Association.
Professor Nickerson has published numerous papers and has served on the editorial boards of Agri-Practice, the Journal of Dairy Science and the Encyclopedia of Dairy Sciences. In addition he has served on the Veterinary Advisory Board of the Agri-Health Corporation.
